The Nordic-Baltic Region in the EU: A loose club of friends

Kristi Raik and Piret Kuusik contributed a paper for the European Policy Analysis series, published by the Stockholm based Swedish Institute for European Policy Studies (SIEPS).

“The Nordic-Baltic Region in the EU: A loose club of friends” discusses the informal cooperation of the NB6 in the EU. The Nordic-Baltic 6 (NB6) consists of Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. There are number of similarities between the six countries, however, there are differences too. Authors argue that similarities between the NB6 countries should not be overestimated and caution should be taken when the group is portrayed as a new emerging block in the EU. The NB6 cooperation is first and foremost issue-based, informal and leaderless.
