Kristi Raik spoke at the European Economic Congress in Katowice on Transatlantic relations

EFPI Director Kristi Raik participated at the European Economic Congress held in Katowice on 13-15 May.

She spoke at the panel “A difficult dialogue. The future of Euro-Atlantic relations”. She highlighted the long-term influence of the changing global balance of power on the Transatlantic relationship, which necessitates a stronger effort of Europeans to manage their own security. At the same time, she noted the need to develop EU defence cooperation in a manner that does not undermine NATO or Transatlantic relations, as the contribution of the US to European security remains indispensable.

The European Economic Congress is the largest economic event in Central Europe. The programme includes also debates on international politics and security among opinion leaders from across Europe and beyond.
