“Ukraine and the other eastern neighbours of the EU have been very positive about China’s role in the region,” wrote Kristi Raik, director of the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute, in Estonian daily Postimees on July 5, analysing the ambitions and influence of the Russia’s great power politics.
“In addition to the economic benefits, they consider it important that China provides a counterweight to Russia’s influence. The fact that the growth of Chinese influence may also have problematic consequences has not received any noticeable attention in these countries,” Raik noted.
